Interdisciplinary Management of Facial & Occlusal Disharmonies: Understanding the Options
It is fairly common to see young patients with some form of oligodontia with resultant tooth position and arch form discrepancies, resultant facial deficiencies or excesses, and resultant occlusally related issues. Even young patients with a full complement of teeth may present with non-ideal growth patterns resulting in facial-esthetic disharmonies and occlusal discrepancies. Giving an ideal treatment plan is dependent on the dentists’ understanding and knowledge of the various treatment modalities. Even more importantly is the understanding of the timing of treatment, growth patterns, and the pros, cons, and limitations of the various treatment modalities.
With adults presenting with facial and occlusal issues, it is also just as important to understand all of the same factors in order to present the ideal treatment plan although the lack of growth has a direct influence on the options for treatment.
This lecture will focus on treating both the adolescent and the adult patient with facial and occlusal disharmonies and will cover the various modalities of treatment, the pros and cons, and how age affects the decision process.
At the conclusion of this lecture participants will have gained an understanding of:
1. The limitations of the various modalities of treatment
2. Advantages and disadvantages of Absolute Anchorage vs. Orthognathic Surgery
3. Understanding age and growth to determine the correct treatment options and its appropriateness

New Perspectives in Endodontics: Restoratively Driven Approaches
View session: https://www.connect.space/accounts/events/aaed40th/agenda/2015-08-05#session_row_3207 <br/>
A new perspective in endodontics is challenging established process driven protocols and offering a more balanced model for patient centered outcomes. At the core of this model is a re-calibration of treatment endpoints and a re-defining of endodontic outcome success. Ultimately, treatment approaches are restoratively driven and offer new possibilities for restorative treatment planning and tooth longevity. This presentation will discuss the new model for endodontic care, review the associated lexicon, and identify restoratively directed approaches for care.
At the conclusion of this lecture participants will have gained an understanding of:
1. Insight into the meaning and significance of patient centered endodontic care
2. The rational for restorative driven endodontic
3. How to identify specific endodontic approaches utilizing conservative dentin management

The most exciting developments in dentistry have emerged during the past decade. Clinicians and dental technicians are continually faced with difficult choices as the number of treatment modalities and materials continues to grow. Adhesive techniques have become increasingly important and frequently can be used in alternative to more aggressive classical fixed prosthodontic procedures. The aim of this presentation is to describe the properties of restorative materials in order to obtain the best clinical results using adhesive techniques. Clinical protocols will be proposed according to the clinical situation, the age of the patient and the restorative material to be used.
At the conclusion of this lecture participants will have gained an understanding of:
1. Physical properties of composites and ceramics
2. Indications and limits of direct composites and laminate veneers
3. How to improve bonding procedures

Ceramic Restorations: Bonding or Cementing – What is Used When
Ceramic materials have evolved from weaker feldspathetic porcelain to lithium disilicate to high strength zirconia. The clinical success of these ceramic materials, as well as their mechanical and physical properties, will be discussed. Indications such as where to use which material and contraindications for their use will be discussed. Wear of enamel vs. zirconia, e.max and veneering porcelain will be shown as well as minimum restoration thickness. Bonding to zirconia restorations is a significant problem and three methods to bond the zirconia restoration are demonstrated. Removing all ceramic restorations is a significant chairside problem- this technique helps. This concise critical review of ceramic materials and cements will simplify your placement of all ceramic restorations. This clinically oriented discussion compares traditional, high strength and hybrid ceramics and compares their clinical success. The course is designed to improve your practice of dentistry by demonstrating which material works, where they are successful, and will demonstrate successful techniques to everyday clinical problems. The presentation is designed as a clinical update and clinical success with adhesives, primers, ceramic materials and cements being demonstrated. This fast paced course will improve your dental practice as well as your selection of materials.
At the conclusion of this lecture participants will have gained an understanding of:
1. Using universal adhesives to reduce cold sensitivity after cementation, proper technique and material to avoid sensitivity
2. Learn what ceramic to use in every application; Reducing loss of retention when cementing or bonding
3. Learn 3 ways to bond zirconia using primers and adhesives

Critical Appraisal of the Literature: Immediate Dentin Sealing
Evidence-based dentistry has taken a critical role in our decision-making process and treatment planning. However, with a plethora of scientific information readily available, it has become increasingly complicated to identify and decipher scientifically sound information. On the other hand, new technologies, protocols and materials are constantly added to existing protocols, sometimes with limited scientific support. This presentation will give an overview of how to identify valid scientific information. The increasingly popular Immediate Dentin Sealing Technique is used as an example.
At the conclusion of this lecture participants will have gained an understanding of:
1. The fundamental concepts of the immediate dentin sealing technique
2. The state of the current scientific evidence on this technique
3. Conclusions to be drawn from the evidence for clinical practice
